It’s not often that my day gets a surprise so big that I’m blown away by someone’s kindness. Today resets the timer of delight and bewilderment.
Karen lives in Canada, the land of free health care and moose, eh! She’s been a friend on Facebook and a Bohicanite on B2K Radio for a while now. So she is well aware that I’ve been trying to marry Tim in between the legaleeze of Florida allowing same-sex marriage, then taking it away, then letting us have it again, and then appealing that decision, et cetera, ad nauseum. In the interim, we’ve asked a REAL baker to make our cake for us when we tie the same-sex knot in November 2015, and she’s agreed. But we didn’t have a topper for the cake besides the ones we can order online with the two white guys standing next to each other in tuxedos. They look nothing like us at all! I don’t have short dark hair and Tim doesn’t have white skin. So it was tough to find a topper for the cake.
Enter Karen.
Karen rescued our cake topper dilemma with the help of Batman and Robin (because we totally look like them…since we ARE them.) She sent me notes on Facebook letting me know it was on the way in the mail. We talked about NOT adding a rainbow ribbon to it since Batman doesn’t do rainbows. He is the night, and there are no rainbows at night time.
Today, the doorbell rang and we got a box. Tim opened it up to find our cake topper!! This surpassed what I was thinking it would look like. Karen, this is perfect!! I don’t need to add (or subtract) anything from it! It even has the required glitter on the background rose thingamajig without exceeding my accepted level of glittery. Batman is on the right (check!) and Robin is on the left (check!) since this is exactly how Tim and I stand in real life. Me with my hands on my hips (all the time!) and Tim with his arms crossed (again..check!). I am taller than Tim (check!). Tim is boyish good looks to my rugged handsomeness that can’t be seen because I wear a mask most of the time (check!). This is absolutely perfect, and we love it. And now I want a cake every month until November so I can see this five more times before November comes rolling around.
Thank you for the topper to our cake. Just like you…the topper to the kindness cake!! I can stop looking for one now since ain’t NO ONE going to have a cake topper like this one. This may not be the right cake topper we need right now, but it’s the topper our same-sex wedding cake deserves. This is incredible!
