If you’re looking for a movie that is actually fun to watch, originally funny throughout, and packed with so much action that the commotion is busting out of your television set from the sides….then “Stretch” is the movie to watch.
This surprisingly GREAT movie stars Patrick Wilson, who is a Tampa Bay Area native. His father has actually been an anchor on the local Fox affiliates, WTVT – channel 13, since the day television was invented. Seriously. He’s been on there a long time. And Patrick’s brother, Mark Wilson, is also a reporter and journalist on the very same station. I refuse to watch the channel because…well…Fox.
Anyway, Patrick Wilson stars as Stretch (his nickname) who is down on his luck ever since the “love of his life” dumped him for a football star. He is a limousine driver of the second rate limousine company in town. He has raked up a gambling debt that is due before midnight, or all hell will break loose on him. “Stretch” takes us through one day of Stretch trying to get $6,000 before his time is up. Lucky for him…he steals a client from the competition, and this is where the movie starts getting really good!
“Stretch” is narrated throughout by Patrick Wilson in sort of a diary fashion. It’s not as crappy as you would think, or have seen in other movies. Patrick lends a sense of hilarity with his lines and delivers his lines (and wit) at the exact moment the punch is to be delivered. It’s smooth and it fits the movie line really well. The BIG surprise is when Chris Pine is introduced as eccentric billionaire, Roger Karos. Chris blows this movie right out of the water. I’m used to him being the Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise. But now…wow! When you see Chris in his role in this movie, a lot of “What the fuck??” will escape your lips. And not only during Chris’s parts, but throughout the entire movie.
Sure, the end is predictable. There are a few cameos by people you’ll immediately recognize by site, but not by nature. You’ll see exactly what I mean when you first encounter them. This film was a great surprise. And the lines in the movie will be used plenty of times here in the House O’ Chuck. In fact, I’ve already used, “Make a lane!” no less than four times already today when walking up the stairs behind Tim.
Bottom line….rent rent RENT this movie. Or buy it. It’s actually worth the money to put it into your collection. I know we will. The 90 minutes went by so fast, I really wanted to have another day with Stretch. It’s that damn good.
