Stop what you’re doing. Right now…stop. Go to Netflix and then select “Cirque Du Soleil: Worlds Away”. This is 91 minutes of art for the eyeballs.
Worlds Away starts with the girl going to the local carnival only to get smitten by a guy setting up a tent. They longing look at each other before the guy gets yelled at to get to work. She finds out that the beautiful guy is actually known as “The Aerialist”, and she begins her hunt to find him. Which she does..before he falls and then she falls and we enter the world that only Cirque Du Soleil can dream up.
Make no mistake…this is more of a movie than it is the regular Cirque Du Soleil shows that you’ve seen. James Cameron (you know the guy…The Titanic, Avatar, Terminator and Aliens are among many of his accomplishments) executive produced this show. You can tell! The film takes you through many shows actually going on in Las Vegas right now. The girl finds herself in a dream world with many tents. Each tent she visits in her attempt to find “The Aerialist” is from a different show that you can actually go see. The acts from “O” at the “O” Theatre at the Bellagio, those from “Ka” at the Ka Theater at the MCM Grand, those from “Love” at the Love Theater at the Mirage, the act from “Mystere” at the Mystere Theater at Treasure Island, the act from “Zumanity” at the Zumanity Theater at the New York New York and the act from “Viva Elvis” at the Aria Theater. (although you can’t see “Viva Elvis” any longer since its been closed.)
Is there a plot? No. It’s a marvel…not a movie. There will be times that you’ll be saying “WOW!” and actually mean it. The sets are incredible. There’s one scene where I don’t even know how they didn’t get their strings all tangled. Amazing performances by ALL! If you haven’t seen it…see it. You don’t have to rent it or buy it since it’s on Netflix for free. I actually would’ve paid to see this in the IMAX theater since it also comes in 3D.
Have fun! I’m telling you – it’s the best 90 minutes you’ll have in front of the television this weekend.
