Take Me Somewhere Else
No one is better than anyone else. We all have our good side and we all have our bad side. It’s a testament of your character as to which side you choose to portray to others. And when you make that commitment to be who you are, then stick with it. Try not to be a hypocrite. Hypocrites are the worst humans there can possibly be since no one knows which direction they’ll come swinging from.
Take for example what I just witnessed on Facebook this morning.
On my friend’s list I have a nurse who is an officer and a nurse in the United States Air Force. Respectable, right? So you would think. During the Obama administration LGBTQ men and women have been accepted into the armed forces. It’s no longer a white boys club. Fighting for the safety and security of the United States of America is now open to everyone since we are ALL equal under the script of the Constitution. Little did the armed forces know, LGBTQ have been in their company even back as far as 1981 when I was in the Air Force. We just weren’t so vocal about it back then. But we were there. And our fellow soldiers knew who we were.
So imagine my surprise when I see on the Facebook newsfeed that the Air Force has implemented a training class for the health field on how to care for a transgender in their care…and the ones who are obligated to take care of any and all humans scoff at the training. They’re freaking nurses…taking care of humans. It doesn’t matter if the person laying on the operating table, the convalescent bed, or on the stretcher is a man, woman, or a mixture of the two. We all have the same number of bones. Our veins are pretty much the same. We have the same organs, and the same skin structure keeping it all in one bucket so nothing falls out. What does it matter if the person laying before them is transgender? I would imagine that the only time concern and confusion would come into place is when something goes awry in the secret garden section of the body. So…in case something does go wrong down south I would think training would need to be done on how to treat and care for the patient. NOT to treat and care for a penis or a vagina, since we ALL have one or the other of those two items.
My surprise was slowly turning into anger when I was reading how the people who follow this nurse…this officer…this “catholic” woman…were churning bigoted comments right before my eyes. And not one of them was good. No one was expressing that the transgendered are people. What makes anyone NOT transgendered better than those that are living on the outside what their hearts and mind are living on the inside?
The very person that started this shit fest of a post then said she would “claim religious objection” just so she could get out of dealing with those she had taken an oath to care for. I’m definitely not transgendered, nor would I ever even consider changing my sexual orientation. I am sort of attached to my junk. But I understand when someone doesn’t feel comfortable in their skin. And when we are all at our most vulnerable – when we are flat on our backs – I would expect those we trust to care for us not to belittle us and beat us up morally and ethically for who we are. You’re a nurse, for fuck’s sake. In a United States institution. Not a catholic church.
Hippocrates created an oath to all of those under his care to reflect “I will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not disclosed to me that the world may know. Most especially must I tread with care in matters of life and death. Above all, I must not play at God.” Yet, this morning, I was watching those that people (ALL PEOPLE) trust to take care of them playing at God. Judging other humans before they even land on your table is playing at God. And it’s deplorable.
I was going to leave a comment, but the post was saturated with so much hate for people these commenters didn’t even know. The transgendered are different, yes. But we certainly aren’t seeing those that are different being hateful to other human beings. Do your damn job, or get out of the business. And using the religion card to get out of doing your job is just disgusting. You are seriously what is wrong with our society.
