If you know me, you know that I have a sense of humor. In fact, most everything is funny to me. Even when it’s not supposed to be. And yes, I can go a bit too far at times. The world around me seems to be the ones with sticks up their asses and are offended by things that really aren’t offensive at all. There are “wars” on just about anything you can imagine. Coke vs Pepsi, Christmas vs Holiday, Democrat vs Republican, society vs the police….it goes on and on. If you are FOR something, you don’t have to look very far (especially online) to find someone who will call you an asshole and try to belittle your own likes vs dislikes.
So it goes with the Mazda commercials with Mary, Josie and Teresa – who are actually the three actresses on “Golden Sisters” on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN channel. It only lasted one season – 10 episodes – back in the summer of 2013. In all of the Mazda commercials (I currently see three in circulation) they harass 1). the salesman trying to give them a deal, 2). coveting Chris Dattola‘s ass in the “Rear End Event” and 3). the driver of the new diesel that apparently has pick up and now he needs to give one of them mouth to mouth resuscitation. Funny. Yep. Repetitive. You betcha. I have seen these commercials more than I really want to see them. Offensive?
Let’s change the genders here. Let’s put three old men in the ladies places and young girls in the guys places. There would be a total outrage all across the worldwide web. You can’t say there wouldn’t be. Have one of the men be Bill Cosby. Now what are your thoughts?
I’ve seen so many comments while doing research for this post that said, “I won’t buy a Mazda because of these commercials.” Do people really buy cars because of the commercials they see on television? I have the television on all day long (mostly for background noise in the studio) and I hear a lot of car commercials. None of them would get me to go out and buy a car. America is way too uptight. It’s just a commercial. Is it sexual harassment? Sure. But I am of the ilk that if it’s not happening to me (or if it doesn’t concern me) then I keep my nose out of it. I have better things to be upset about. Like why is it that I live in Florida – the land of sunshine – and still can’t get solar power. That’s the sort of thing that pisses me off. Not three old ladies flirting. We need to learn to pick our battles a little better.
